California American Water’s Director of Engineering to Discuss Microgrid Solutions at NARUC Annual Meeting in Anaheim

[ANAHEIM, CALIF] – November 8, 2024 – California American Water will be represented by Lacy Carothers, Director of Engineering, at the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Annual Meeting in Anaheim. The panel, titled “Microgrids: A Resilient and Sustainable Solution for Water Utilities,” will explore the role of microgrids in strengthening the resilience of water utilities, particularly in regions prone to extreme weather events.

Carothers will share insights into California American Water’s experience with microgrid technology and discuss how it can benefit water utilities in terms of potential cost savings, reliability, environmental sustainability and benefits to customers.

“Microgrids offer a promising solution for water utilities to enhance their resilience and reduce their carbon footprint,” said Carothers. “By combining renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, and advanced control systems, microgrids can provide a reliable and clean power supply, even during grid outages.”

Carothers will also discuss the importance of partnerships between utilities, regulators, and technology providers in advancing the adoption of microgrid solutions. By working together, these stakeholders can accelerate the deployment of microgrids and create a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
