Water Utility Surpasses State and Federal Standards
CORONADO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--California American Water announced today that results published in the company’s 2013 Consumer Confidence Reports indicated excellent water quality throughout its Southern Division districts which include water systems in Los Angeles, San Diego and Ventura Counties. California American Water’s Consumer Confidence Reports are searchable by zip code and accessible online at www.californiaamwater.com.
“Our team cares about the water in our communities, and these reports show that we continue to supply water to our customers that is of better quality than what is required by state and federal drinking water standards,” said Southern California Director of Operations Garry Hofer. “Our water quality and operations professionals work hard every day to ensure the reliable delivery of safe, clean and affordable water to our customers. These results are a testament to their expertise and dedication.”
Consumer Confidence Reports are an annual performance measure of the quality of water supplied by California American Water against the compliance standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Department of Public Health. The report describes drinking water sources, testing conducted on the water, substances detected and the levels of those substances. Commonly asked questions and the associated answers concerning drinking water are also included.
“The journey of water from its source to your tap is much more complex than many people realize, and nothing is more important than the exhaustive testing taking place at every stage of its voyage,” said Hofer. “Water is constantly monitored by computer-controlled analyzers that continually check and measure the clarity of the water, its pH balance, temperature, and a wide range of other critical factors. Then more tests are performed, not just before the water leaves the plant, but also as it travels through the pipes on its way to you.”
The entire journey of water can be seen in the Journey of Water video on American Water’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/UjlDYlcZdss.
