Illinois American Water Responding to Main Break near Marketplace Plaza on North Market Street
Road Closures Needed
Champaign, Ill. (Oct. 26, 2023) – Illinois American Water responded earlier today to a main break in Champaign’s water distribution system. The repair work will be completed on North Market Street between Eisner Road and Wilbur Avenue in Champaign.
In order to complete this work safely, Illinois American Water has closed a portion of North Market Street beginning at Wilbur Avenue thru the southern exist of Marketplace Plaza near Planet Fitness. Motorists are being routed off North Market Street at Wilbur Avenue. The intersection of North Market Street and Eisner Road will remain open.
Motorists should use caution when driving in the area and obey traffic signs, detour routes and flaggers. If possible, motorists should avoid the area.
Illinois American Water is committed to working as safely and quickly as possible to restore service to any impacted customers in the area. Once the main break is repaired, restoration of the roadway will begin. Restoration may take several days during which the street will remain closed.
Water customers impacted by this main break have been notified.
