Indiana American Water Announces Job Opportunities for Gary and the Northwest Indiana Community
GARY, IND. (September 16, 2021) – Indiana American Water and its parent company, American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, announced today it will offer fully remote, customer service job opportunities for residents of Gary and the northwest Indiana community.
“Indiana American Water has been an incredible partner with the city, and this announcement is further proof of their commitment to the continued revitalization and growth of Gary,” said Gary Mayor Jerome Prince. “By recruiting Gary residents to train and work in these customer service positions, they are not just offering jobs, but the opportunity to build careers in a growing field and with a growing company.”
Since purchasing the water system more than two decades ago, Indiana American Water continues to follow-up on its commitment to help revitalize the city and its water infrastructure, be an impactful corporate citizen and advocate for the community. The company has invested more than $400 million in the northwest Indiana water system, including $33 million to remove nearly 12,000 lead service lines. The company and its employees are also actively engaged in the communities we serve by partnering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Northwest Indiana, several local fire departments, and the Salvation Army.
“This initiative is another way we are continuing to invest in this community while building on our award-winning customer service organization, which handles calls from across the country,” said Matt Prine, President of Indiana American Water. “Our commitment to customers and the communities we serve goes beyond the delivery of safe, reliable water and wastewater service – it also includes helping to make communities better because we are there, and this is a perfect example of that.”
Indiana American Water has been the water services provider for most of Lake and Porter counties since 1999 and has been serving customers in Indiana for more than 135 years.
American Water’s national customer service centers are located in Alton, Ill. and Pensacola, Fla. Gary-based customer service roles will help supplement the company’s call center operations, fielding calls across its regulated footprint.
