American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation Respond to Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Efforts
Kentucky American Water, in collaboration with American Water and two subsidiaries, and the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF) are lending support to the relief efforts in Eastern Kentucky following last week’s catastrophic floods.
Within the last week, in consultation with leadership from Kentucky American Water, American Water, Indiana American Water and West Virginia American Water have collectively delivered 23,000 gallons of drinking water to Eastern Kentucky through tankers of water and bottled water donations. Kentucky American Water is sending this weekend an additional two truckloads of bottled water for the relief efforts.
“Numerous members of our Kentucky American Water family have strong ties to the Eastern Kentucky area, and all of us simply want to be good neighbors and do what we can to help our fellow Kentuckians in need,” said Kathryn Nash, president of Kentucky American Water. “We appreciate our company coming together to support the flood relief efforts by sharing the resources they have with the Commonwealth. We also want our neighbors in Eastern Kentucky to know that all American Water employees across the country – not just those here in Kentucky – have been made aware of the many opportunities to donate to the Eastern Kentucky flood relief efforts individually, too.”
Additionally, the American Water Charitable Foundation has donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross for support of the Red Cross Eastern Kentucky flood relief efforts. Kentucky American Water also worked closely this week with the AWCF to set up a fundraising campaign with American Water employees. The campaign has already raised an additional $3,000 and the total continues to rise.
“The American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to join the ongoing relief efforts across the state of Kentucky to support the families and communities impacted by the devastating floods,” said Carrie Williams, president, American Water Charitable Foundation. “We understand how critical clean, safe drinking water is in our daily lives and in times of emergencies. We hope this contribution can provide some assistance and relief to the residents of these affected communities."
