Kentucky American Water Awards $8,500 to Local Fire Departments through Firefighting Support Grant Program

Program has provided over $100,000 in grants since 2011

Seventeen fire departments in Kentucky will share $8,500 in total grant funds through Kentucky American Water’s 2024 Firefighting Support Grant Program. Today’s announcement brings the total amount of funds awarded to Kentucky firefighting organizations since the program’s inception in 2011 to $108,000 and precedes National Fire Prevention Week, observed this year from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12 to raise awareness about the importance of fire prevention and emergency planning.

“We are proud to partner with the men and women who are dedicated to providing fire protection and related services to their communities,” said Justin Sensabaugh, senior manager of operations for Kentucky American Water. “We’re honored to continue our Firefighting Support Grant program to support the tremendous work they do and thank them for the critical services they provide to communities year-round.”

Kentucky American Water’s Firefighting Support Grant Program covers a variety of fire department expenses associated with personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, training and fire prevention education.

Departments receiving funding in 2024 are:

Bourbon County
• Bourbon County Fire Department for the purchase of new communication equipment
• Hutchison Station Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of new pumper truck equipment
• Millersburg Fire and Rescue Department for the purchase of LED scene lights
• North Middletown Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of training room equipment

Clark County
• Clark County Fire Department for the purchase of a new tablet device

Fayette County
• Lexington Fire Department toward the purchase of fire-resistant hoods

Franklin County
• Franklin County Fire Department toward the purchase of an electric vehicle safety tool

Harrison County
• Cynthiana Fire Department for the purchase of hydrant connection tools
• Harrison County Fire Protection District for the purchase of binoculars

Owen County
• Monterey Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of portable radios
• Owen County Fire Department for the purchase of firefighting helmets
• Owenton Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of firefighting helmets

Rockcastle County
• Climax Volunteer Fire Department toward the purchase of a utility trailer
• Livingston Fire and Rescue for the purchase of gate valves
• Pongo Volunteer Fire Department toward the purchase of brush truck equipment

Scott County
• Georgetown Fire Department for the purchase of training materials for new recruits

Woodford County
• Woodford County Fire Department for the purchase of firefighting gloves
