Kentucky American Water Awards Environmental Grant to Idle Hour Neighbors Alliance
Kentucky American Water is proud to announce this year’s recipient of its 2020 American Water Environmental Grant Program. This year, the company has awarded a grant of $1,033 to the Idle Hour Neighbors Alliance in Lexington.
The organization’s project involves converting a portion of neighborhood greenspace located adjacent to a creek into a no-mow zone and planting trees and shrubs in the area. The project will assist in allowing for better absorption of stormwater, creating habitat for wildlife, and enhancing the buffer zone along the creek. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s Division of Environmental Services, Hickman Creek Conservancy and the Lexington Chapter of Wild Ones will serve as partners.
“Since its establishment in 2006, our environmental grant program has provided more than $236,000 in needed support for projects to help improve, restore and protect our natural resources through partnerships,” said Dave Farrar, vice president of operations for Kentucky American Water. “We are pleased to support this year’s recipient and applaud their efforts to make a lasting impact in the community.”
The American Water Environmental Grant Program provides funds to community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect watersheds, surface water and groundwater supplies in local communities across the American Water footprint. More information can be found on Kentucky American Water’s website.
