Fund established to support relief efforts in communities served by American Water
BEL AIR, Md. (June 16, 2020) – Maryland American Water is pleased to announce that the Harford Community Action Agency (HCAA) has received $15,000 from the American Water Charitable Foundation to support their efforts to provide emergency food to Harford County residents in need.
“Nothing could prepare us for how dramatically the COVID-19 public health emergency was going to change everything. The impact has been extraordinary. Everyone has had their daily lives upended, but there are Americans for whom COVID-19 has been devastating. So many have lost loved ones, their jobs and income,” said John Walker, operations manager, Maryland American Water. "Our customers and employees have felt the impact and now, more than ever, we are grateful for - and proud to support - organizations like Harford Community Action Agency.”
“The HCAA’s mission is to help all Harford County residents who are experiencing financial hardships meet their housing, food and other needs. Traditionally our food supplies were donated, and this is the first time in 38 years of operation that HCAA has had to purchase food to support the 6,000 food insecure families we feed annually,” said Pamela J. Craig, HCAA's executive director. “Through the donation from Maryland American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation we will be able to continue to operate the Community Action Food Pantry and Food Bank and ensure that no one in Harford County, Maryland goes hungry.”
