New Jersey American Water and Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey Partner on New Source Water Protection Patch

Making a big splash on Imagine a Day Without Water to expand environmental education on the value of protecting drinking water sources.

CAMDEN, N.J. – OCT. 19, 2023 – In honor of Imagine a Day Without Water, New Jersey American Water is proud to announce its partnership with the Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey (GSCSNJ) to launch the “We Keep Water Flowing” patch program.

A patch program is a series of activities designed for Girl Scouts to learn about a particular subject and, once complete, participants earn a patch to display on their uniforms. The two organizations collaborated to develop this new patch program focused on protecting drinking water sources.

“We are thrilled to introduce this innovative initiative to Girl Scouts throughout the central and southern areas of the state,” expressed Denise Venuti Free, senior director of Communications and External Affairs for New Jersey American Water. “This program empowers young leaders to delve into their local drinking water sources, instilling a passion for protection and fostering interest in water industry careers.”

This is the first Girl Scout patch dedicated to source water protection in New Jersey. To earn the patch, Girl Scouts must complete a series of research and activities. All activities are education and age appropriate. Girls in grades K-12, who are enrolled in a Girl Scout program, are eligible to participate.

Ginny Hill, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Central & Southern New Jersey, echoed the sentiment, stating, "This partnership creates opportunities to empower Girl Scouts to cultivate confidence and leadership by taking charge of water stewardship in their communities, deepening their understanding of environmental sustainability and inspiring them to make a real impact locally."

After completing all necessary steps within their Girl Scout level for the program, Scouts can request their New Jersey American Water patch. Patches will be mailed on a rolling basis beginning November 1, 2023.
