New Jersey American Water Highlights the Importance of Safety with Annual Employee Safety Week

CAMDEN, N.J. – OCT. 27, 2022 – New Jersey American Water highlights the importance of workplace safety this week during its annual Safety Week, Oct.24 - 28. Each year, Safety Week takes place during the last week of October and consists of various training courses and refreshers for employees to keep themselves, peers, and customers safe.

“At New Jersey American Water, safety is our first and foremost priority,” said Mark McDonough, President of New Jersey American Water. “From our field operations to our treatment facilities and everyone in-between, our employees have made tremendous strides to work safer and must continue to make safe decisions every single day. Safety Week is just one way we highlight the importance of this and celebrate safety milestones our team has accomplished.”

Safety Week began as Safety Day at New Jersey American Water in 2017 and was expanded to an entire week in 2019. Trainings are offered to employees online and in person each day throughout the week and cover a myriad of topics including emergency preparedness, cyber security, confined space training, and more. Safety remains top of mind year-round at the company as every employee is empowered with stop work authority if unsafe working conditions are observed, and employees are also encouraged to report unsafe conditions through the company’s Near Miss program.

New Jersey American Water encourages customers to participate in Safety Week as well by learning what they can do to keep themselves and our employees safe. The company offers educational videos about work zone safety, common utility scams and more on its YouTube channel. Customers should also take a moment to review and update their emergency contact information and preferences in their MyWater account.

“Safety will always be the top focus for us - for every employee, customer, and community we serve. Nothing is more important,” said McDonough. To learn more about New Jersey American Water’s commitment to safety, visit www.newjerseyamwater.com.
