New Jersey American Water Invests $22 Million in Linden Infrastructure
CAMDEN, N.J. – NOV. 1, 2023 – Starting this week, New Jersey American Water will replace approximately 7,300 feet of aging water main in Linden over the next three years. The company will upgrade the 36-inch prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) water main that was installed in the 1950s starting on Linden Avenue from Pleasant Street to Stiles Street. Future portions of the project will take place along Pleasant Street, Rebecca Street, Smith Street, and Avenue C.
The project also includes replacing any customer-owned service line that has been identified as lead or galvanized as part of a statewide initiative to remove all lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.
“We are pleased to upgrade this important piece of infrastructure in our Central Operating Region distribution system over the next few years,” said Carmen Tierno, Sr. Director of Operations, New Jersey American Water. “This project represents a critical investment for the company in support of our commitment to continue to provide customers with safe, reliable water service.”
This $22 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community. This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure across the state.
New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor, J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. will begin work on the first part of the project on Linden Avenue on or about November 1 and expects to be completed by the end of February 2024. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some night work may be required to maintain the project schedule. The second and third parts of the project on the remaining streets will take place from November 2024 to February 2025 and November 2025 to February 2026. Customers will be notified prior to the start of each portion of the project.
Project timelines are subject to change due to a variety of factors including weather and availability of supplies. New Jersey American Water encourages customers to sign up for alerts through their MyWater account and follow the company on Facebook and Twitter to receive project updates.
For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.
