New Jersey American Water Proudly Recognizes the American Water Charitable Foundation 2023 Workforce Readiness Grantees
Recipients include four nonprofit organizations across New Jersey
CAMDEN, N.J. – NOV. 28, 2023 – In honor of Giving Tuesday today, New Jersey American Water is proud to recognize the American Water Charitable Foundation’s 2023 Workforce Readiness grantees. Four organizations supporting communities served by New Jersey American Water were awarded a 2023 Workforce Readiness Grant by the American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S.
“At New Jersey American Water, we believe in supporting and enhancing the communities where we live, work, and operate,” said Mark McDonough, president, New Jersey American Water. “Through the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Workforce Readiness Grant Program, we are able to provide critical funding to these organizations and propel their mission forward to help foster future leaders of tomorrow.”
Below is a list of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s 2023 Workforce Readiness grantees throughout New Jersey:

“Girls Inc.’s mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold,” said Dena Herrin, CEO Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey. “With the support of the American Water Charitable Foundation and New Jersey American Water, we are able to expand our programming in Camden to include a STEM and career readiness program that equips girls and young women to envision themselves as part of the workforce of the future. These extraordinary opportunities do not exist without the generous support of our partners. Thank you, American Water!”
“As we continue to enhance our workforce development program to help more young adults in our region build strong futures, we are grateful for the American Water Charitable Foundation’s and New Jersey American Water’s support and their investment in our young adults,” said Dan Rhoton, Executive Director at Hopeworks. “All young adults should have an opportunity to receive an education and the skills they need to be successful in their work and personal life, and we are able to do this through the help of our corporate and community partners, like American Water.”
“We believe that empowering young people with the knowledge and skills to address challenges related to climate change is the only way to ensure a sustainable future,” said Cindy Ehrenclou, Executive Director at Raritan Headwaters. “The American Water Charitable Foundation and New Jersey American Water have made possible our connection with youth from the communities that are most impacted by environmental harms and lack access and resources to participate in a program like Watershed University.”
The Workforce Readiness grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities.
