New York American Water Adding Water Main in Wantagh to Improve Water Distribution
Wantagh, NY (March 4, 2020) – New York American Water is investing $800,000 to install new water main in Wantagh to allow for additional distribution of water from the DeMott Pump Station into the distribution system. The project, scheduled to begin March 4, will add 400 feet of 16-inch ductile iron main and 500 feet of 20-inch ductile iron main to the system.
“The purpose of this project is to increase flow of water from the DeMott Pump Station into the distribution system, specifically to areas north of DeMott Ave” said New York American Water Director of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “Increasing the amount of water we can deliver from our DeMott Pump Station will improve customer water pressure during periods of peak demand.”
No customers will be impacted by this project. This main project will take place along DeMott Avenue from West Seamans Neck Rd to Seamans Neck Rd in Wantagh. Work is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed when weather permits.
Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents in the area should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours.
