New York American Water Announces 2020 Be Water Wise! Art Contest
MERRICK, NY. – November 12, 2020 – New York American Water is pleased to announce its annual Be Water Wise! Art Contest is continuing in 2020. Each year, the Be Water Wise! Art Contest provides an opportunity for fifth-grade students to creatively express the importance of protecting and conserving our drinking water supply. Given the COVID-19 health emergency, New York American Water has altered the submission process for student posters. Students who live within New York American Water’s service territory are asked to submit their posters electronically via a dedicated email rather than physically mailing in the poster.
“This contest is just one of the many ways New York American Water promotes environmental education, water conservation and community engagement each year,” said Lynda DiMenna, President of New York American Water. “By participating in this fun and educational contest, students will learn more about the value of our water supply and the many ways they and their families can protect this important natural resource.”
New York American Water encourages teachers and parents to have eligible students participate in the art contest as it is a fun and creative way to learn about the water cycle, water conservation and the importance of protecting our drinking water. As part of their entry, students are also asked to submit a brief narrative about the inspiration for their artwork and why water conservation and protecting our water supply is important to them.
All entries will be judged on creative vision, artistic talent, an understanding of the value of water and an ability to communicate that message. New York American Water will choose three winners to receive gift cards, and all participants will receive a water bottle and a recognition certificate.
This year, all contest entries must be emailed to artcontest@amwater.com by December 7, 2020. All artwork is asked to be submitted in either PDF, JPEG or PNG format with the students’ first name, last name and school included in the file name.
