New York American Water Replacing Over 3,000 Feet of Water Main in Cedarhurst
Cedarhurst, NY (June 22, 2021)—New York American Water is investing $960,000 to replace aging water main in Cedarhurst starting this month. The projects include replacement of 2,500 feet of aging water main with new eight-inch ductile iron water main along Washington Avenue between Pearsall Avenue and West Broadway and replacement of 550 feet along Cedarhurst Avenue from Peninsula Boulevard to Lincoln Avenue. Seventy company-owned service lines, as well as five fire hydrants, will be replaced as part of the project.
“Water mains are an integral part of delivering quality, reliable water service to our customers and replacing aging water mains is critical,” said New York American Water Director of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “The replacement of these water mains strengthens our system for the future while achieving a higher degree of customer satisfaction.”
Work on both projects is expected to begin Wednesday, June 23. Cedarhurst Ave will take approximately three weeks to complete, and Washington Ave is expected to take six weeks to complete. All construction will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours. New York American Water will coordinate with residents in proximity to the construction site to minimize disruptions.
Final road restoration will be completed by the Village of Cedarhurst road paving project.
