Pennsylvania American Water Continues Development of a New Public Water System in Dimock, Pennsylvania
SCRANTON, Pa. (March 20, 2024) – Pennsylvania American Water continues to make progress developing a public groundwater supply for a new drinking water system to serve residents in Dimock. This new public groundwater system is funded by a plea agreement negotiated between the Office of Attorney General under then Attorney General Shapiro and Coterra Energy.
Recently, Pennsylvania American Water consultants performed field investigations to determine the best location for a new public well to supply water to the affected residents. Two potential well sites have been identified in the area, as well as a potential location for a treatment building.
“Our continued efforts support our timeline of completing the engineering, design, and permitting phase by the end of this year,” stated Jeremy Nelson, Pennsylvania American Water project manager. “We anticipate beginning construction next year, with completion in 2026 and the ability to provide safe and reliable service to these residents.”
The project includes approximately six miles of water system pipeline and new service lines to each of the affected resident’s homes. All current plumbing will be disconnected to prevent cross contamination with the individual wells currently connected to the homes. The public water supply will be treated to address potential contaminants in the groundwater and meet all Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection public drinking water standards.
