Virginia American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund Support Relief Efforts in Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (July 14, 2020) – Virginia American Water is pleased to announce that Carpenter’s Shelter has received $15,000 from the American Water Charitable Foundation to support their efforts to provide comprehensive services for homeless individuals and families in the City of Alexandria, Va.
“The impact of the COVID-19 public health emergency has been extraordinary. Everyone has had their daily lives permanently altered, but homeless Americans have been disproportionally impacted. Alexandria’s homeless are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 and we are proud to support organizations like Carpenter’s Shelter that provide invaluable services to Alexandria residents in need,” said Barry Suits, president of Virginia American Water.
“Carpenter’s Shelter serves more than 700 homeless and formerly homeless children and adults each year. We have been effectively addressing the threat that COVID-19 poses to our residents, staff and volunteers.” said Shannon Steene, Carpenter’s Shelter's executive director. “This funding will help cover costs associated with longer stays in our emergency residential shelter, emergency staffing expenses, and additional medical and cleaning supplies for our staff and residents.”
