Virginia American Water Employee, Peter Kulcsar, Named Utility Employee of the Year by Alexandria Chamber of Commerce
Community Champion Honors program recognizes the above-and-beyond performance of Alexandria’s Workforce
Alexandria, VA (August 6, 2024) – The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce (Chamber ALX) has selected Virginia American Water employee Peter Kulcsar as Utility Employee of the Year. The recognition is part of the Community Champions Honors initiative that Chamber ALX launched earlier this year to celebrate Alexandria’s extraordinary workforce.
Kulcsar has worked for Virginia American Water as a field service representative for seven years. In 2022, he received American Water’s Courage Award as a part of the company’s National Safety Awards. Peter received this award after showing courage when witnessing an unsafe worksite condition involving a 12-foot trench with no shoring.
Although it was not a Virginia American Water contractor or worksite, Peter recognized the situation could have disastrous consequences. He took a photo and approached the site supervisor, requesting they stop work. Unfortunately, he was told to leave the site. However, he was affected by the potential harm the workers faced in such dangerous conditions and contacted the City Inspector and Fire Marshall, who shut down the site until correct safety protocols could be put in place.
“Peter continues to exemplify leadership in the field of safety and is a champion of American Water’s Safety Culture. Beyond his strong performance of the day-to-day duties of his job, Peter can often be found volunteering at Virginia American Water events in Alexandria,” said Barry Suits, President of Virginia American Water. “He is often the first to volunteer and his energy and enthusiasm are only amplified when he’s interacting with members of the community. Peter regularly goes beyond what is expected of his position,” Suits continued.
Recipients of the Community Champions Honors were honored on Tuesday, August at 8:00 a.m. To learn more about Chamber ALX and the inaugural Community Champions Honors List, click here.
