Virginia American Water Proudly Recognizes American Water Charitable Foundation 2024 Water and Environment Grantees
Recipients include three Virginia-based non-profit organizations
Alexandria, VA – June 13, 2024 – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., recently announced three organizations were awarded a Water and Environment grant, supporting communities served by Virginia American Water.
“At Virginia American Water, our work extends beyond providing safe, clean, reliable water and wastewater services to our customers. We are also committed to supporting organizations that make our communities a better place to live and work,” said Barry Suits, President of Virginia American Water. “Funding provided by the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Water and Environment grant program supports deserving organizations and their positive impact throughout the Commonwealth.”
The Water and Environment grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which focuses on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities.
Below is a list of the Virginia grantees:
- James River Association will provide high school biology students with the opportunity to conduct up-close investigations of the James River’s Ecosystems by analyzing data to examine impacts of various species on the river’s health.
- Friends of the Occoquan’s Barrels & Blooms project will focus on empowering communities through water conservation. Their program will work to improve water conservation by utilizing rain barrels, creating community gardens and hosting river clean-ups for healthier waterways.
- Maymont Foundation will use funding to support environmental education resources for K-12 schools by offering environmental and horticultural education and supporting community engagement.

Funding for Water and Environment grants is allocated towards projects focused on clean water, conservation, environmental education, climate variability, and water-based recreation.”
