Virginia American Water Receives Safety Award From American Water Works Association
Prince William District Awarded Wendell LaDue Utility Safety Award
ALEXANDRIA, V.A. (July 12, 2023) – Virginia American Water is proud to announce they have been awarded the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) Wendell LaDue Utility Safety Award. The award was received during ACE 2023, AWWA’s annual conference and expo, held last month in Toronto, Canada.
The award was established in honor of Wendell R. LaDue, a lifelong water and wastewater employee and previous AWWA President. Each year, the award recognizes distinguished water utility safety programs throughout the United States and Canada.
“At Virginia American Water, safety is our first and foremost priority,” said Barry Suits, President of Virginia American Water. “Our Prince William water distribution and wastewater collection teams’ dedication to safety has been demonstrated through their stellar safety record and distinguished safety practices, resulting in 33 years without a time-lost accident or injury.”

Virginia American Water’s Prince William district also received the distinction of receiving the AWWA Virginia Section’s 2022 Larry Gordon Safety Award and the Virginia Water Environment Association’s 2022 Facility Safety Award.
