West Virginia American Water and American Water Charitable Foundation Provide Over $845,000 in Statewide Support to Communities in 2023
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (July 16, 2024) – West Virginia American Water announced today its end-of-year charitable total for 2023. Last year, the company provided over $459,000 through grants, charitable contributions and programming support to nearly 127 organizations across West Virginia. In addition, the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF) donated $386,200 in grants and employee matching gifts, further impacting communities served by West Virginia American Water. Combined, total giving exceeded $845,200.

That's why we're proud to collectively provide over $845,200 in funding to benefit the well-being and safety of our customers and communities."
Some of the 2023 American Water Charitable Foundation grantees in West Virginia included:
- The Huntington Children’s Museum ($164,520) to support the organization's new ADA accessible Sensory City exhibit
- The American Red Cross Central Appalachian Region ($30,000) to support disaster relief efforts following flash flooding in Kanawha, Fayette and Clay Counties
- Mission West Virginia ($25,000) to fund its Bridge Program, a mentorship initiative focused on at-risk youth, including those in foster care and homeless teens
- First Lady Cathy Justice’s Communities in Schools Program ($25,000) to support its Steps to Student Success Program
- The West Virginia Manufacturers Association Educational Fund ($19,820) to enhance its Explore the New Manufacturing Program, aiming to bolster careers in the manufacturing industry
West Virginia American Water employees also engaged in philanthropy of their own, having raised over $37,000 for 73 West Virginia non-profit organizations through the American Water Charitable Foundation's volunteer and matching gift program.
