West Virginia American Water to Commemorate National Infrastructure Week
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (May 9, 2024) – West Virginia American Water will commemorate National Infrastructure Week starting Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17. The company will highlight its commitment to replacing and upgrading infrastructure that addresses the evolving needs of water and wastewater systems across the Mountain State.
“As the state’s largest water and wastewater utility, we believe that ongoing investment into our treatment and distribution systems is an essential component of our commitment to providing safe, reliable service to nearly a third of the state’s population,” said Rob Burton, president of West Virginia American Water. “National Infrastructure Week offers an excellent opportunity for us to share information about those investments and to explain why they are so important to the communities we serve now and well into the future.”
In 2024, West Virginia American Water plans to invest approximately $97 million in water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout its service territory. Projects include replacement of over 20 miles of water main, replacement of mechanical and process components at water and wastewater plants, installation of new water main to serve troubled systems and replacement of pumps at various booster and lift stations.

Major infrastructure upgrade projects include replacing 1,300 feet of 12-inch and 6-inch PVC pipe on Indiana Avenue in Charleston, replacing 2,600 feet of 6-inch PVC pipe on Pinoak Road in Lashmeet and replacing 400 feet of 2-inch PVC pipe along 6th Street West from Monroe Avenue to Madison Avenue in Huntington.
