YOUR WATER RATES
Virginia American Water's service rates are based on the real costs of treating and delivering water to customers, and are regulated by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC).
To change its rates, Virginia American Water files an application with the SCC supported by studies and testimony demonstrating its cost of providing service, including the cost of construction, maintenance, operation, administration, taxes, and financing. The Company's submission is subject to rigorous review by the SCC staff and the Virginia Office of Attorney General, Division of Consumer Counsel, who then file their own testimony and analyses. After considering all of the evidence, the SCC sets the Company's rates.
